The Solana Ecosystem is on FIRE, with over 2,000 monthly active developers and a community of ~300k daily active giga-chads paying to use its blockchain. Gateway has been paying attention to Solana for some time and we’ve been blown away by how active the community is, with tens of thousands of developers participating in the Grizzlython and Sandstorm Hackathon this year alone. The community has fearlessly pushed through adversity by putting its faith in one principle: Build Better.
Leading the charge on Solana developer enablement is Helius Labs. Mert Mumtaz and the Helius team are focused on building the ultimate developer platform for shipping products on Solana while fostering a positive and welcoming developer community. This is why we are proud to announce that we are teaming up with Helius Labs, our first official community credential partner in the Solana ecosystem.
Helius is the leading developer platform for building on Solana. It provides a suite of tools that makes it easier to manage your RPC Node, parse and index on-chain data, and manage complex architectures for real-time data. The goal? Enable builders to ship faster, and minimize tech dependencies, while being part of one of the most active communities in web3.
As Helius has grown, they have become more focused on actively supporting the community, and most importantly building with them. This is why they are now focusing on ways to recognize, engage, and reward their developers and most active advocates. The question you may be asking is “Is this just another NFT drop?”. The answer is NO! Take a look at Helius Lab’s recent blog post on their advocates program to understand the perks. If not NFTs, then how? That’s where we come in.
Gateway is a credential management protocol focused on helping organizations and platforms issue, manage, and define the usage of credentials. This is done via the Gateway SDK, which allows organizations to quickly interact with our infrastructure to issue credentials and manage their life cycles. Credentials with Gateway are different from the typical NFT everything motto and w3c verficied credential standard. Instead, we blend the best of both worlds to allow for credentials to be publicly verifiable, while preserving privacy. Gateway’s unique value proposition comes with the ability to revoke, suspend, or upgrade credentials. Allowing for unique use cases to be built with our credentials at the foundation of your decentralized identity.
In the case of Helius, they are issuing two unique credentials. The first is for their “Helius Hacker Advocates'' and the second is for Active Helius Developers.
The first credential will be manually issued to Helius’ advocates, resulting in several benefits to holders. This will be done via Gateway’s V2 UI which will allow approved organizations to create basic claim structures and issue credentials directly to users based on their wallet addresses. This is a great way to begin building with Helius, gain access to unique networking/builder events and develop your web3 reputation. Note this credential can be revoked, so make sure to keep performing and driving value to the ecosystem to enjoy its perks!
The second credential will be for developers building with Helius. Helius will be able to issue credentials natively from their platform by integrating the Gateway SDK. This will allow Helius to connect its backend to Gateway’s SDK to define “triggers”, and requirements needed to earn a credential, and then automatically issue them based on if the parameters are met. So how do you earn one? First, Helius defines wallets connected to its developer application as “inactive” or “active”. Second, Helius will create tiers for the credentials based on the Hacker’s subscription plan on Helius.
Why Credentials?
These credentials will be crucial to Helius’ community and building your reputation as a developer. In Helius’ blog post, they discussed how their advocate program will result in several benefits for holders, the same will apply to the developer-focused credentials. As a whole, this is a new way of creating loyalty programs in web3. With Gateway, organizations can engage their communities in ways not possible before. This is a crucial pillar for building network states and driving customer retention in web3.
Make sure to follow Gateway and Helius on Twitter for more updates, and the credential will be issued to developers and advocates within the next few weeks. Stay tuned!
